Gearbox is
made up of a number of gears attached in a systematic manner to provide
variation in speed and torque generated by an engine.
The gears and shafts are the two major
components of the transmission and help in providing specific speed to the
wheels.
The different
types of gearbox used in the automobiles are discussed in this blog. Mainly
they are divided into two categories- manual transmission gearbox and automatic
transmission gearbox.
Manual
transmission gearbox.
·
Sliding mesh gearbox: In this type, the gears available on the
main shaft are shifted toward the right or left in order to provide appropriate
meshing and supply required speed and torque to the wheels.
·
Constant mesh gearbox: In this type, all the gears are in constant
mesh with the counter gears and rotate freely without rotating the main shaft.
A dog clutch is employed which meshes specific free gear with the main shaft in
order to provide specific output.
·
Synchromesh gearbox: This gears and shafts is little similar to the
constant mesh gearbox but here the dog clutch is replaced by a Synchromesh
device which helps in increasing smoothness while meshing and produces less
noise compared with constant mesh gearbox.
These are the
three different types of manual transmission gearboxes.
