Transmission gears and shafts are the basic parts that help in maintaining the speed and
torque required for the displacement of the vehicle. In this blog, I am going
to provide the basic working of transmission gears and shaft in the
automobiles.
The gears are the thin cylinders having teeth on its
circumference. These gears or gear trains help in maintaining the gear ratio
required for the effective working of the vehicle. Along with this, the
transmission shaft helps in transmitting power at a larger distance. It also
has the capability to transfer it at a different angle along with different
angular velocities with the help of universal joints.
The engine supplies the power at high rpm. This high rpm
can’t be directly transferred to the wheels because they need to be reduced
before supplying. A group of gears termed as gear train is employed to perform
this task. It helps in increasing the torque by reducing the rotational speed
of the shaft. By reducing it at an effective rate the power is transferred to
the differential with the help of transmitting shaft.
In short, the transmission gears and shafts helps in reducing the rotational speed of the shaft by
providing a better starting acceleration of the vehicle.
