Powertrain components: Knowing the Important Facts

In a motorcar, the word Powertrain components means the main component that generates power and delivers it to the road surface, water, or air. The Engines, Transmission, Drive Shafts, Differentials, and Wheels are nothing but Powertrain components. The most recent research on the Powertrain components is driven by the electrification of it in multiple components. This leads to larger batteries.

  1. Engine: An internal combustion engine is the heart of the Powertrain. It is a heat engine where combustion of the fuel occurs with air in a chamber. Here in this process, chemical energy is converted into mechanical energy.
  2. Transmission: Transmission is nothing but a machine which provides controlled application of the power in a power system. It is often called as gearbox, gears provide speed and torque. Transmission can also be used in pedal bicycles where different torque is adapted.

  1. Drive Shaft: A drive shaft or cardan shaft transmits the torque and rotation, generally used to connect other Powertrain components of a drive train. The drive shafts are subject to torsion and shear stress due to the torque.
  2. Differentials: It is basically a gear train with three shafts. It has an amazing property that the rotational speed of one shaft is average of the speeds of the others.  http://www.avtec.in
