The work of the Powertrain components controller is to control the combination of actuators and sensors in the automatic transmissions. It also controls the device when attached to the assembly unit. It is essential in the modern production processes as it helps in enabling the control of series of both small as well as the high volume.

Engine Controller

The work of the engine controller is to adjust and control the speed of the engine, combustion processes, the quantity of air and temperature, optimizing the ignition, and various other functions. It is supported with the standards like AUTOSAR and ISO26262. It is also fitted with the multi-micro-controllers like quad-core. Due to the modularity and the scalability, it is very fast and provides adjustments which are specific to the customer.

Brushless Motor Controller

The auxiliaries like valves, water pumps, throttle and air valves which are electricity-powered are controlled by this brushless motor controller. Its main function is to detect the rotor position of BLDC. It also supports the systems whether that have sensors or not. It also blocks the commutation. It also features the communication to CAN, LIN, and PWM which are of very high level systems. It is beneficial as it fulfills all the requirements with the minimum cost and the control of two BLDC engines is also possible with a single controller.

Summary: These are the three most important powertrain components i.e. transmission, engine, and brushless motor controller which are used to give specific and efficient control to the customer. Along with this, there are also important parts like smart actuators, sensor cluster, and the fuel supply management which supports the system of the powertrain.

Automatic Transmissions: How it works?

If you used to drive a car, you might be surely knowing that there are two types of transmissions in a vehicle i.e. manual transmission and automatic transmission.
Transmissions gears and shafts doesn’t have any clutch pedal in the car. In an automatic transmission, there is no gear shift. The car runs automatically once you put the transmission of the car into the drive mode.
Automatic transmissions do its work by the torque converter present in it. A torque converter is the source which takes the place of clutch in the automatic transmission. It has four components by which it performs its actions i.e. the turbine, the impeller, the lock-up clutch, and the stator.
In this, the input shaft is connected to the turbine and the impeller to the engine which drives the turbine by various forces. And the impeller rotates the turbine which sends the torque to the transmission. The work of the stator is to be between the turbine and the impeller. It helps in increasing the output of the torque and redirecting the fluid which returns from turbine to the impeller. The work of the lock-up clutch is to lock the turbine so that it can be mechanically connected to the impeller.

Summary

As it is known that Transmission,Gears and Shafts are divided into many parts and types and here is described about the working of the automatic transmissions. Now it could be said that both the transmissions do the same work but in very different ways. The work process of automatic transmissions is totally amazing as it changes the gears of the car automatically

Powertrain of a Car

Types of Car Powertrain
The front wheel drive and the rear wheel drive are the two types of setups present in a powertrain components. Along with bearing a hub, the drive shafts move to the front wheels and a horizontally opposed engine is born by the front wheel drive.
If it is talked about the rear wheel drive setup of powertrain, the transmission is placed behind the engine and the front of the car is faced by the engine.

Function of Car Powertrain
The main function of the powertrain in the car is to provide power to the car. The Engine makes the power and then with the help of transmission transfers it to the driveshaft. The axles and finally the wheels are turned in the driveshaft in a wheel drive car.

Features of Car Powertrains
Powertrain warranty includes the sensors but these sensors do not provide direct power to the vehicle. They just provide input and output to and from the PCM. The computer information is sent by some of the sensors to the output sensors. All of these work all-together to give smooth, efficient, and clean run by the car.

Summary: So by the above article it can be concluded that the transmission, engine, driveshaft are the Powertrain Components in the powertrain of the car. ECM (Electric Control Module) has a function of powertrain management and it may be also called as the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) depending on the car. The inputs are generated in the PCM and ECM through the sensors and the output is also sent through other sensors.

Difference between the AMT and CVT Auto-Transmission in Cars

AMT and CVT are also parts of Transmissions Gears and Shafts. AMT which means Automated Manual Transmission just same as the manual transmission. There is no difference in both these while seeing the principles or the design. In this, the driver doesn’t need to operate the car with the clutch. It is just operated by the Transmission Control Kit(TCU) which has the installation of a calibrated program in it. The limited gear ratio which is served by this AMT is 4/5/6 speed which is same as compared to the manual one. In this, the shift shocks which are felt in the manual transmission cannot be eliminated.

On the other hand, if it is talked about CVT which is Continuous Variable Transmission, the gears are replaced using two diameters. The shape of the variable diameter seemed to be like a metal belt or a pair of opposing cones. The two variable pulleys are input and output shafts in which, the input shaft is connected to the engine while the output one to the wheels. The pulleys diameter becomes large when its halves come closer and as a result, the belt is forced to make a higher ride.

Summary: In Automated Manual Transmission Gears and Shafts the engine doesn’t give the best efficiency as it is not operated at the right speed whereas, the Continuous Variable Transmission is operated at a favourable speed and in return, it gives the best efficiency. AMT doesn’t give a pleasant driving experience as the driving force goes down when the gear is shifted.

Backlash in Gear Manufacturing

The problem which occurs generally with the error of motion is known as the backlash in Gears and Shafts. This is occurred when the gear system changes its direction. A gap is seen between the leading and the trailing face of the tooth.

How Backlash can be Minimized

A number of techniques can be used to minimize the backlash of the system as required by it. One of the techniques is described here:
·         On a plane, split the gear which is perpendicular to its axis.
·         Then, in conjunction with one another with springs, use the two halves of it in order to add the torque to the system.
·         By this technique, a multi-gear system will be produced which will function just like the single gear system along with the teeth which can be expanded.
·         The teeth can also be tapered in the axial direction which will let the gear to take up the slack and slide in the same direction.
·         An unexpected name can be given to the Backlash but in the gear world, it is also an important process for the gear manufacturing

Summary: It could be analyzed that the Gears and Shafts are perfectly designed and manufactured when a set of gears have “zero” backlash. It shows that these don’t have any lubricant and thermal expansion interfering the system. So, those gear systems which requires control and control should be designed with backlash.

Main Electric Power Transmission Components are:

·         Conductors: These are used in carrying the electric power to the various distribution stations from the power plant. In a group of conductors, these are joined with Spacers where the number depends upon the voltage level.
·          Spacers: This help in avoiding the damage caused to the conductors and hence a distance is created between the partial conductors.
·         Insulators: According to the voltage level, these insulators are used to stand with both the normal voltages and used to support the conductors.
·         Earth Wire: This is used to reduce the chances of strikes in direct lightning to the phase conductors. So, at the top of the supporting structure, it is grounded in the earth.
·         Dampers: A damage to the conductor may be caused due to the oscillations and vibrations in the overhead transmission components. In order to reduce this type of mishaps, installation of dampers is done in the overhead transmission.

·         Cross Arms: These play a vital role in holding the insulators line directly. These are designed like an arm and used in order to maintain the conductors at a defined height.
·         Tower: These are made specially in the square shapes and are in contact with the ground with the help of four points. In order to transfer the mechanical load to the other structures, a semi-flexible tower is also designed.
Summary

It would not be wrong to say that Electric power transmission is the lifeline of a country. Transmission Components play a vital role in the huge movement of the electrical energy. And the natural calamities are also sustained by these towers. Transmission towers help in carrying the heavy conductor to a safe height from the ground.

Difference between the Transmission Fluid and the Gear Oil

If we generally talk about the importance of Transmissions, Gears and Shafts in any car, it would be right to say that transmission is the most important part either it is manual or the automatic one. Below is the difference between these two, Transmission fluid and the gear oil.

Transmission fluid helps in running the car very smoothly as it has a complex fluid which consists of detergents and lubricants. It also have additives which help in blocking the corrosion and rust, and also includes anti-wear additives, surfactants and dispersants which will help in cleaning and protecting the parts of the transmission which are made of metal. In short, it could be said that the transmission fluid is a very thin fluid. The colour of the transmission fluid is green or red.

Now coming towards the gear oil, the work of gear oil in the manual transmission is to prevent and lubricate the corrosion. This is all because of the reason that when the clutch is pressed and released and the gear is changed in the car, it experiences a high friction. Due to the additives, the gear oil has a very strong and distinctive smell. When the gear oil is compared to the transmission fluid, gear oil is much thicker and it is all because it is used in lubricating the gearbox and transfering the cases.

Summary: Now, it could be said that, if the gear oil and transmission  gears and shafts fluid is not used correctly in the automatic and manual transmissions, it can cause a huge damage and may increase the severe wear and tear.

Image result for Powertrain Components In a motor vehicle, the term powertrain or powerplant describes the main components

The powertrain is the mechanism used to convert fuel energy into kinetic one with the use of mechanical parts. In Automobile, powertrain defines the main components that generate mechanical power by the use of the engine and then convert it into kinetic energy.
The powertrain components include engine, clutch, gearbox, Transmission shaft, differential, axle, and wheels. Recently, the components of the hybrid power trains like a battery, electric motor are also added in this category.
The drive line of the motor vehicles includes all the parts of the powertrain expect engine. The major components of the powertrain components in an automobile are explained below:
•    Internal Combustion Engine: The engine produces mechanical energy through the internal energy of the fuel by combustion. The engine provides maximum half of its peak output value.
•    Clutch: The clutch is an important part of the vehicle as it helps in engaging and disengaging of the engine shaft and the gearbox.

•    Gearbox: Gearbox is used to produce variation in gear ratio. The gearbox helps in reducing rpm generated by the engine which in turn help in increasing the torque.
•    Transmission shafts: It helps in transferring power from gearbox to the differential located at some angle.
•    Differential: It helps the vehicle in taking the turn through the average power transmission to both inner and outer wheels.

Summary: Thus the powertrain components help in reducing RPM generated by the engine and transfer it to the wheels in an efficient and smooth way. It includes battery and electric motor also, located in the hybrid engine.
