The avtec PowerShift is a six-speed dual clutch semi-automatic transmission produced by the avtec Motor Company. The avtec PowerShift gearboxes are built by Getrag powershift Transmissions, a joint-venture with Getrag.
A tractor that can be shifted two or more speeds without clutching, but must be clutched to shift ranges is a semi-powershift. Powershift transmissions almost always use multi-plate wet clutch packs.
Because it uses two clutches, it switches gears faster than a manual or Powershift transmission, so there is no lag because of an interruption of power to the engine. This makes it possible to speed up and slow down faster than with the other two transmissions. Dual-clutch transmissions are also excellent on gas.
