Structurally
one may not find spot difference between the two ways of powershift transmissions but if we look closely we have two
camshafts and gears where one is inside the other where one is for even
numbered gears and another one for odd numbered while in manual ones we only
have one set each?
Origin & Functionality
The technology was developed by Europeans and later brought to the United States by
US car makers. Through powershift transmissions, we get more power than conventional transmission modes which
are manual by nature, your accelerator and clutch with changing gears go side
by side giving more power at the time of changing gears as well.
Camshafts
here always stay over the gears thus whenever both accelerator and clutch goes
together the camshaft comes to play and moves over the next gear settings and
hovers. So when again clutch is pressed with accelerator the camshaft is
already at the right places. Thus this avoids collision between gears, unlike
old systems.
Initially,
peoples were reluctant to move to vehicles with the new powershift transmissions system as they had a perception that this
transmission is not as smooth in handling as the old hydraulic manual
transmission system. But slowly and steadily the system was optimized more and
it was found that in the long run, this system was saving fuels and increasing
life of a vehicle as well.
