To be able to move in a car from one point to another,
you keep increasing and decreasing your car speed based on the road and traffic
conditions. But how does that takes place? You’re able to change the speed of
your car with the help of Transmission system present in the car after
engine.
In case you’re driving uphill, you need more power to
push your vehicle up the hill. This power is generated in the engine but is
transmitted by a transmission system to wheels.
Types and applications -
There are 2 basic types of transmissions – automatic and
manual. Automatic Transmissions have
applications in many areas such as Automotive, Mining, Aerospace, Astronomy and
other high-end machines. Although, manual transmissions are also used in most
of the applications.
In automotive,
they mainly are mainly used at 2 applications – On-road and off-road.
Automatic Transmissions system has had a long history of invention.
Now, transmission systems contain sets of gears in a defined gear ratio,
clutch, torque converter, and axle to transmit power and vary speed. Higher the
no of gear, less is the power and more is speed and vice versa.
The off-road highway has been exciting for many years for
adventurous drivers. Thus brings in the requirement of off-highway automatic transmissions. This terrain
has more variation and thus require a much quicker change of gears and quick
transfer of power making them out of the league.
Current Industry scenario -
There are thousands of driver who drives for miles daily
but still aren’t aware of how the system works. Many people are nowadays
preferring automatic transmission systems but manual still has its magic
working on some drivers.
